We finally got some reliable info on Kelis’ label situation via Entertainment Weekly.
First, former NSyncer JC Chasez decided to part ways with Jive Records, and now, EW has learned, Kelis has been dropped from the label that’s home to Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and R. Kelly. The R&B singer’s 2003 album, Tasty, yielded the massive hit “Milkshake,” and was certified gold, but Kelis’ most recent effort, 2006’s Kelis Was Here, had less success in the U.S.—despite plenty of guest spots, including a collaboration with her husband, Nas. Kelis was originally signed to Pharrell Williams’s Star Tracks, which had a distribution deal in place with Virgin, which was later moved to Arista and, through the SonyBMG merger, she ended up with Jive. “It was a case of being in the ever-shrinking world of the record industry and finding herself on a label she wasn’t signed to and without a champion,” says Kelis’ manager, Jeff Rabhan. “She’s a different kind of artist — very image and style-driven. It’s either something you get or you don’t.”
Kelis has been working on an indie dance record with Cee-Lo. A full-on pop effort with Guy Chambers (Robbie Williams) will be shopped around soon. “We’re not opposed to another major label deal, but it would have to be non-traditional,” adds Rabhan. Kelis is also in talks to host a Project Runway-like show on VH1 and is auditioning for numerous TV and film roles.

I knew it!!! She is terrible in the U.S. we don’t like what she’s giving us.. GURLLL u can do better… Your a good singer, try to make a comeback and leave your husband alone stop using him to get a hit.. I know you can do it on your own..

damn im not surprised (sorry to say). I have disussion with my friends about artists and the way we view their careers. (hopefully her manager will read this) she needs to stop being so image and style-driven this aint makin ppl go out and buy her album.ive never heard some 1 say i like her haircut so much imma go out and cop her new album. basically, one the music end it’s not poppin she needs to go back to pharrell and them for help or holla at timbaland.

Kelis could easily have had at least 3 top 40 hits from each album but CLEARLY someone else is in control of which singles are released & make the album AND how she’s promoted…that’s how i see things…hopefully they’ll figure something out. I want to hear more music from her…i at least want her to pass her talent on via songwriting, b/c she has some VERY clever & sometimes hilarious lyrics

kelis is a great artist but she has no promotion for anything she does. you dont know when her albums come out so you dont get them. kelis was here was indeed her best album yet but they kept moving the release date and to top it off there was only posters on the street. had it been jay z or nas there would have been radio and tv ad’s. tv specials and everything. sidebar..she’s not using nas to get a hit, if she was trying to do that she would have released every song she did with him..also,so what if she cut her hair or not..i dont think she did that to sell records

GUYS get it right!! She is using her husband !! She is not as big as jay z or nas to warrent all the hype, she doesnt’ even sell even a quarter of what they sell.. she needs to really sit down and figure out how to do it on her own… SHE CAN DO IT!!! sidebar.. she was on the radio to promote her album and on tv AND SHE STILL DIDN“T SELL!!! Not her best work on this lastest album.

hey kelis shoulda got out to the UK and ireland more to promote the album, this is where her decated fans are in europe, the US is such a tough market if she hadda stuck it out in europe she wouldda done better, i mean NOBOODY in ireland knew she was releasin an album, but lil’ star did pretty well…she defintely didnt deserve to get dropped! :( i wanna c kelis back on the europe music scene soon!! :) gd luck hunni!!

I LOVE Kelis in everything she does. I have every album and I know everything will work out because she’s great . I just want her ti be in more control of the singles that she puts out. I can’t wait for the next album. That will be so DOPE! I am happy for her I think she must feel a sigh of relef. She’s the dopest hip- hop roc star!
